Evan William Plunkett
Ghostly figures drifting along a sidewalk, empty corridors, quiet roads, and faded Americana—Evan William Plunkett’s photographs transform these ordinary or abandoned spaces into scenes that feel suspended in time. Defined by a cinematic, dreamlike aesthetic, his work blurs the boundaries between memory, reality, and imagination. Working with long exposures, existing light, and intentional camera movement, Plunkett has developed a distinctive style he calls photo impressionism, capturing the atmosphere of a place rather than its literal form. Influenced by film and storytelling, he creates visual narratives that evoke presence and absence, illustrating what he describes as “the fluidity and essence of the perpetual movement of time.”
Based in Putney, Vermont, Plunkett grew up in New Jersey, Connecticut, Texas, and Massachusetts, and studied Political Science at the University of Miami. His work has been featured in juried exhibitions, publications, and on the cover of SHOTS magazine, and is held in numerous private collections. He has published three monographs: Statements in Passing (2017), Landscapes (2019), and First Impressions (2023).
Alongside his artistic practice, Plunkett is a social justice and environmental advocate, serving on the board of the Doris Wilderness Foundation, Inc., an NGO dedicated to preserving and rewilding critical ecosystems.
